In old days there was canal in use just skirting the Raipur town. With the time the city has been increased in manyfold and that canal is presently become disused. The traffic volumes and demand for road transport in India particularly the National Highways were witnessing high growth rates. Envisaging this upward trend in the future years, Government of Uttar Pradesh has taken up an initiative to develop an Expressway Corridor entirely passing through the state from north to south covering up 1000 km of length.

Raipurand Bilaspur are the two most important cities in Chhattisgarh. Earlier it was connected through State Highway 5. Looking at the importance the same has been up-graded to National Highway 200.The government of Chhattisgarh has decided to widen it to a 4-lane facility to cope up with the future traffic growth.

The traffic volumes and demand for road transport in India particularly the National Highways were witnessing high growth rates. Envisaging this upward trend in the future years, Ministry of Surface Transport has entrusted the implementation of NHDP corridor on NHAI. The NAHI has taken up the existing four-lane corridor for converting it to 6-lane configuration. Pricipally the improvement of these corridors has been proposed to be implemented through NHAI under financial format of BOT basis.

Detailed Narrative Description of Project

Amikapur town is a small urban centre in the state of Chhattisgarh and located on NH-78. In order to segregate traffic movements the R&B dept. of Chhattishgarh, proposed the construction of a 21 km 2/4-Lane divided bypass outside Ambikapurtown.

The work involved fixation of the approprite alignment after studying the topographic details, growth of the town, traffic flow etc. This has benn done in consultation with local officers of the department and other agencies like Municipality of Ambikapur. A comprehensive alignment design has been done based on the elaborate study conducted. The assignment includes selection of alignment, Traffic Study and Analysis, prepation of Highway and Structural Drawings, Rate Analysis, preparation of BOQ and Costing.

The upgradation project of state highways initiated by the Government of Meghalaya includes
Rymbai – Ipmala – Suchen Road. The avove section of the state highway (Km 0.000 – Km 17.000) is a major connectivity in
that region and playing important role for the economic development of the state. The existing single lane was proposed to be converted into a 2-lane road with better geometry for a design speed of atlest 40 kmph in the rugged hill.
